The Natural Solution – Talalay Latex Natural latex has exploded back onto the bedding scene in the last several years. This material has always been prized as the best-feeling ingredient available for mattresses, but it is only within the last several years that it could be produced in a way that ensured even wear and life-long durability.
Natural latex is now produced under exacting conditions which enhance the consistency and durability of the end product. Our natural latex mattresses from Vera Wang carry a 30 year warranty, and the material is featured in many conventional spring mattresses in addition to this specialty line.
Natural latex is an eco-friendly material, and our products use natural latex certified by Oeko-Tex to be free of harmful substances or chemicals. Natural latex is derived from the sap of rubber trees. This is a renewable product and harvest does not harm the trees or the environment. It is combined with other natural ingredients in a mold and the air is extracted to ensure consistency. Then it is chilled to -20 degrees to set the material and then heated to 220 degrees to cure the core. It is then placed into a five-stage washing process to removed residual materials that might cause free particulate matter in the end product. Do not confuse this natural latex with the cheaper imitation latex which is made of petroleum-based ingredients. Synthetic latex does not have the same feel, nowhere near the durability, and also lacks the natural anti-microbial and non-allergic qualities of natural talalay latex. Synthetic is also much less costly to produce than the natural material. Many unsuspecting consumers are never told the difference and end up with a low quality knockoff that won’t reduce allergic reaction, won’t last in its original condition, and won’t have the same feel as the real thing.
